bauma CHINA 2026 Opens Soon: 400,000 sq m Across Two Venues
On November 23, bauma CHINA 2026 will open first at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center, followed two days later by the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, with the show running through November 27. This is the first time in the 24 years since bauma CHINA landed in China that it has adopted a "one show, two venues" format: a total exhibition area of 400,000 sq m, expected to bring together more than 4,000 exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions, under the annual theme "New Quality Without Boundaries · Coexisting Future". Behind the expansion of the show's scale are three forces working at the same time: market recovery, tightening policy, and the electrification transition.
One Show, Two Venues: 400,000 sq m Sets a New Exhibition Record
First, the hard facts. This edition adopts a linked dual-venue model: the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center runs from November 23 to 26 (Monday to Thursday), and the Shanghai New International Expo Centre runs from November 24 to 27 (Tuesday to Friday). Both venues are located in Pudong; a single visitor registration grants access to both, and one ticket covers the entire run of the show.
In terms of scale, 400,000 sq m represents growth of about 20% over the previous edition's 330,000 sq m, and the number of exhibitors has risen from 3,542 to more than 4,000, coming from over 30 countries and regions. The division of labour is also clear: the New International Expo Centre hosts the established industry segments, covering complete construction machinery, mining and building materials machinery, attachments and wear parts, power and hydraulic transmission, and other traditional strengths; the World Expo venue focuses on future technologies and the industry ecosystem, hosting the concurrent conference and live product demonstrations. Organiser Messe München (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. disclosed the above plan at its August 12 press conference and simultaneously launched the global buyer invitation program.
From 330,000 to 400,000 sq m: Three Signals Behind the Scale Expansion
Put the two editions' figures side by side and the scale of the expansion is immediately clear:
| Metric | bauma CHINA 2024 | bauma CHINA 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Exhibition area | 330,000 m² | 400,000 m² |
| Number of exhibitors | 3,542 (32 countries and regions) | 4,000+ (30+ countries and regions) |
| Professional visitors | 281,488 (from 188 countries and regions) | Global buyer invitation program in progress |
| Overseas visitor share | Over 20% | Target: further increase |
The first signal is that the market has genuinely recovered. In the first three quarters of 2026, the construction machinery industry's overall revenue reached RMB 335.8 billion, up 13.4% year on year; excavator sales in September alone grew 14.4% year on year, and cumulative exports exceeded domestic sales for the first time (see September excavator sales up 14.4%: cumulative exports exceed domestic sales for the first time). Export value over the first nine months reached USD 53.514 billion, up 22% year on year, giving manufacturers the confidence to build bigger booths (see USD 53.5 billion in exports: construction machinery turns to building plants overseas).
The second signal is that the product mix is shifting gears. The show has a dedicated new-energy technology zone where battery-electric, hybrid and hydrogen-powered machines, along with charging and battery-swap equipment, make a concentrated debut; global excavator sales run at 570,000 units a year and Chinese manufacturers' share has risen to 30%, with a considerable part of that growth coming from electric models (see Global excavator sales of 570,000 units a year: Chinese manufacturers' share rises to 30%).
The third signal is that international buyers are back. At the previous edition, overseas visitors already accounted for more than 20%; this edition, drawing on bauma's global show network, has launched a global buyer invitation program, with four international pavilions moving into Hall N2 of the New International Expo Centre, and the degree of internationalisation can only increase.
Policy Pressure: China VII Passes Review, Local No-Use Zones Keep Expanding
The show's green theme is not a marketing line but the result of policy pressure. On the domestic front, 2026 is a critical window for the China VII standard for heavy vehicles: the Institute of Environment Standards of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences has completed the technical review of the draft for comment on the *Limits and Measurement Methods for Pollutant Emissions from Heavy-Diesel Vehicles (China Stage VII)*, the expert group agreed to pass it, and the standard has entered the final stage before public release. The industry had previously widely expected the China VII standard to be issued by the end of 2026, with implementation running about two years behind Europe.
Comparing against the EU timetable makes the urgency easier to see. EU Regulation 2024/1257 (Euro VII) stipulates: for light-duty vehicles it applies to newly type-approved models from November 29, 2026, and for heavy-duty vehicles from May 29, 2028. Several research institutions estimate that once Euro VII takes effect, the per-vehicle cost of heavy commercial vehicles will rise by about EUR 12,000, and this cost will ultimately be passed through into equipment pricing.
The pressure on the non-road side arrives more directly. Non-road mobile machinery diesel engines currently fall under the GB 20891-2014 Stage IV (China IV) emission standard, and Beijing's 2026 model catalogue has already explicitly required non-road mobile machinery and their matching diesel engines to reach China IV. Local no-use zones keep expanding: the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government issued a notice on August 15, 2026 designating areas where high-emission non-road mobile machinery is prohibited; Jiangmen issued a notice amending its no-use zone rules on September 30, 2026; and Shenzhen, Beijing, Jinan and other cities had previously designated similar areas.
For equipment owners, this means three things: the room to operate China II and older equipment is being squeezed away rapidly; cross-regional construction work requires checking local no-use zone policies in advance; and used equipment appraisals must list emission class as the first hard criterion.
Show Highlights: Electrification, Intelligence and Big Brand Moves
The domestic leaders are making the biggest moves. SANY Group's show representative said at the press conference that 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of SANY's founding, and the group will build a linked presence of nearly 10,000 sq m across four zones in the two venues, presenting the latest results in complete machines, intelligent capabilities and the future ecosystem, while officially launching the new brand slogan "Forging the Future Together". XCMG Group, another representative company exhibiting simultaneously in both venues, has also confirmed its line-up.
The international camp is equally complete. At the previous edition, international brands such as Caterpillar, Manitou, Bomag, Skyjack and Haulotte all turned out, and this edition continues that line-up. The technology highlights concentrate on four threads: electrification (battery-electric and hydrogen-powered machines, charging and battery-swap equipment), intelligence (remote intelligent control, unmanned mining scenarios), the attachment ecosystem (front-end attachments and wear parts that make one machine do many jobs), and supporting services (core components such as seals, tyres and hydraulic parts).
The official concurrent conference revolves around four directions — scientific and technological innovation, the electrification transition, overseas market expansion, and the development of the attachment ecosystem — echoing the World Expo venue's positioning of "future technologies and the industry ecosystem".

Final Words: Policy and the Show Are Creating a Resonance
The China VII standard is nearing release, local no-use zones keep expanding, and the Euro VII countdown is advancing in step — on the policy side, "green compliance" has already been written into the equipment purchasing logic for the next three years; and a 400,000 sq m show is the industry's vote of confidence in this main thread. For buyers, the next 12 months are both a window for replacing equipment and the period when compliance risk is most concentrated.
